Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future.
Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?
This recommendation from Sara and viral sensation really hit the mark for me, with a couple of caveats:
- I still strongly dislike novellas. They never leave me fully satisfied.
- Unlike some other reviewers, I’m really glad the vignettes were short and diverse, without an explanation of everything going on.
This story follows Red and Blue, two time-traveling creatures from two factions at war who, while trying to destroy (?) humanity, start a secret correspondence and fall in love. I think if you try to understand what’s going on, you’ll inevitably end up disappointed.
But if you accept that this makes no sense (and that the plot grows thinner at every chapter, really), then you can immerse yourself into the letters of our two heroines and really vibe. This is a vibes book − don’t try to make sense of it or you’ll hate it, in my opinion.
Being a vibe reader myself, I didn’t mind, and even enjoyed this short story. It’s not the best story I’ve read by any means, and I don’t think I would have wanted to finish it if it had been full-sized, but this format suited me well and made it a nice read.
