I’m leaving Meta

Yesterday was my last day at Meta after nearly six years there (whoa!). It’s been an incredible journey during which I’ve learned so much − about localization, the tech industry, and myself as well.

A short look back

Starting as a Localization Editor was my first deep dive into understanding what makes French audiences unique for businesses. (Did this make me even more insufferably proud of my national heritage? Yes. Yes, it did.)

This role taught me to embrace new tools, collaborate with amazing vendors, and manage large-scale projects that truly made a difference.

One of my proudest moments was working on the gender-inclusive language project, which spanned over 30 locales, each with its specificities, over a couple of years. Knowing that our work was seen by hundreds of millions of people was incredibly rewarding.

At Meta, I had the privilege of having the most brilliant and kind colleagues I could ever have hoped for. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who strives to do what’s right, and I’ll miss you dearly − though, let’s be honest, I’ve been missing many of y’all for a while now. Thanks, layoffs.

What’s next

I’m taking the next month off to recharge, unplug, and enjoy a much-needed digital detox. During that month, I’ll do a bit of camping, a bit of hiking, and a bit of Wikipedia editing, probably, because we all know what my « digital detoxes » look like!

Wikimédia France

I’ll remain on the board of trustees for Wikimédia France, starting the second year of my term in November. Now that I don’t have a glaring conflict of interest anymore, I’ll advocate more openly on behalf of the organization, against enshittification and in favor of an open Internet and culture. This can only be done with your support, so I’m throwing the links here:

  • Donate to Wikimédia France to support our hiring efforts and initiatives on French ground and with the French government (for instance, school, museum and university projects)
  • Join Wikimédia France (cheap and no work required!) because there’s strength in numbers, and to have a say in where our efforts go
  • Donate to the Wikimedia Foundation to support the online projects and non-French initiatives

A new adventure: Hylé!

In late September, I’ll be starting a new adventure as Head of Content at Hylé. I’ve been supporting them as a freelance content manager since February and I’m really excited to dive into something completely new, transitioning from a tech megacorp to an early-stage startup in a field that was utterly foreign to me just a year ago. All this while working with people I’m honoured and excited to call my friends!

❤️
