Evil Author Day : mes brouillons abandonnés, my abandoned drafts

Sara a parlé d’Evil Author Day l’an dernier et je me suis gardé l’idée bien au chaud depuis.

I think I’m a cult hopper

(there are no notes, literally just this title. The draft is from May 1st, 2024.)

RSS feeds explained to my friends

No notes.

Eurosport on Max has ruined my life

  • I use Eurosport only to watch the Olympics & short-track speed skating.
  • The Max merge made it more expensive for less quality − trying to peddle me house of the dragon when eurosport actually showed me the sports i wanted to see
  • ads
  • fuck em
  • didn’t really solve the UI issues from the previous thing either
  • is this me giving money to the harry potter people???
  • anyway i canceled eurosport and it makes me sad (but the public service has amazing olympics coverage and short-track world cups now have free youtube livestreams so what am i even losing)

I really don’t care if it’s open source

Indie is more important than open source. I’m not free with free software that I can’t operate. I’m freer with closed software that I can use.

My travel writing process

take notes as I go
geolocalized photos

add photos when I have wifi (snapseed)

on the train, while memories are afresh but I have hindsight, write the actual post
if short trip like an exhibition write at home

create draft via obsidian plugin. if long trip, publish via obsidian plugin too.

when I’m back:

  • proofread
  • internal links
  • image alt text

Publish.

I share a specific post or tag with my family and friends so that they don’t need to find out how to navigate through the series and they’re not exposed to the rest of what I write if they’re not interested. someday I should teach them about RSS…

Has quitting most social media changed my taste?

See Filterworld.

TripAdvisor / google maps for places to eat 🙁
shows and movies definitely since there’s no Netflix rec
music: I just don’t listen to it much anymore. getting CDs from the library? not enough bandcamp. radio free fedi has been good
books ehhhh

Note by Alex: I’m actually not deleting this draft, I have a lot to say and maybe I’ll find the will before next Feb. 15.

Is personal blogging trust infrastructure?

No notes.

Why we trust Wikipedia, explained like a blockchain

compare with blockchain’s trustlessness: proof of work, proof of stake, proof of authority

but also aggregation of many sources that have proof of work, stake, authority

sponsored vandalism: proof of stake fail

My problem wasn’t Twitter and the answer isn’t Mastodon

That one is from March 2023, yikes

I joined Mastodon in 2020. I was curious about this social network. I wasn’t looking for a Twitter replacement. And the more we go, the more I realise how lucky I was.

I came to Mastodon, created an account, made a few posts, didn’t get immediate engagement. As I was forgetting about it, someone messaged me asking how I was doing and suggested an offline meetup. Brash but effective – I stayed, met a bunch of people at that picnic, and built my own world over on Mastodon.

When the shit hit the fan for Twitter, I decided to leave, like many other people. But not having looked for an alternative meant that I had something else – something better than a pale copy. And that made it easier.

A few months later, I started using Mastodon less and less. I barely post anymore, after 3 years on this network. I think that, however great Mastodon was for me during the pandemic, my issue wasn’t Twitter, Mastodon or anything else. My issue was with yelling into the void.

Freedom and decentralization: what do they mean?

I’m actually super interested in this onenever wrote it, but still would be down to read it.

Why do we talk about such different things when we talk about freedom and when we talk about decentralization?

A respectful look through libertarianism and (left-wing) anarchism, and through the Fediverse and the blockchain.

100 reasons for having your personal website

These include reasons to have a personal website and reasons to blog, as in my opinion they’re strongly intertwined.

Reasons to have a homepage:

  1. So long-lost friends know how to get back in contact with you
  2. If a recruiter wants to know
  3. Linking to things you care about and want to showcase
  4. Making sure someone else doesn’t impersonate you

Reasons to blog:

  1. Blogging / dynamic content
  2. The more you post the lower the barrier to posting

Pourquoi j’ai arrêté Réussir Mes Études

https://reussirmesetudes.fr
