oh no, I am falling into another A Song of Ice and Fire rabbit hole.

I read the series in 2014 when trying to catch up with the show (season 4, that is) because my ex was into it.

I’ve restarted A Storm of Swords and been using Race for the Iron Throne’s chapter by chapter rereading. It’s really great, with a classic analysis, a « what if » section and well researched history parallels, ending with a comparison with the show (seasons 1 and 4 are the only ones I watched in full, but I don’t remember them well – still nice to put a face on most characters).

the thing is, he’s not done with his reread of ASOS and hasn’t started the following books, and since his ASOS analysis started in 2016 and the last update was from January 2023, I think I’m going to catch up.

When I reread books 1 and 2 a few years ago, my ex was reading alongside me. She’s a giant fan of ASOIAF so at the end of every chapter she’d tell me why this or that was extremely significant or very smart foreshadowing or supported a given fan theory.

While I don’t think there’s much to replace a loved one enthusiastically dissecting every chapter immediately after you read it, I would like to see more chapter by chapter analyses as video, blog posts or podcasts. I don’t mind spoilers at all. If you have any recommendations, share them!

In the meantime, back to empathizing with Samwell’s self-hatred.
